Inside Intrepid Sea, Air Space Museum

If you’re looking for one attraction to spend your afternoon, there are dozens of excellent options in New York City. One fantastic spot that’s perfect for the whole family is the Intrepid Sea, Air Space Museum.

Housed aboard the National Historic Landmark aircraft carrier Intrepid, the museum hosts a stunning collection of historic vessels and aircraft. It’s the perfect way to enjoy a fully immersive experience that’s both fun and educational for the entire family.

The Intrepid itself served in World War II, the Cold War and the Vietnam War. Visitors can take a walk through the submarine Growler, the only one of its kind that’s open to members of the public. Guests can also walk through a real British Airways Concorde plane and have an up-close look at the aircraft that crossed the Atlantic in less than three hours. Guests can purchase a guided tour of the Concorde for $7 per person or $4 for museum members.

If you’ve ever wanted to see a space shuttle in person, the Enterprise is on display for space fans, along with a full exhibit showcasing NASA’s space shuttle program. Get the ultimate experience with the “Apollo and Beyond VR” that takes guests into the Space Shuttle Program. The VR experience is priced at $11 per person and $8 for museum members.

Visitors can also enjoy 3D films like “Aircraft Carrier: Guardian of the Seas” and “Journey to Space.” Both films are $10 for admission and $5 for museum members; both are located in the Allison & Howard Lutnick Theater. 4D experiences include “Stories of the Intrepid” and simulators like the “G-Force Encounter,” which simulates the experience of a supersonic jet plane, and the “Transporter” that takes riders on a training mission with the Screaming Eagles.

Educational demonstrations take place daily and provide a more in-depth experience. Groups can book 90-minute and two to three-hour VIP and VVIP tours at a flat rate. Admission to Intrepid Sea, Air Sea Museum is priced at $33 for adults, $31 for seniors (65 and over) and college students, and $24 for children ages five to twelve. Visitors can also purchase the add-on experiences online when they purchase their admission tickets.
