Vacation Hacks in Las Vegas

Check Your Timing

Everyone knows booking last-minute travel costs more, so plan in advance. If your schedule is flexible, summer weekdays tend to be your best bet for fewer crowds and lower room rates. Avoid holiday weekends, significant events and mega conventions that may boost flight prices or car rental rates. Be sure to check the convention center’s calendar for large tradeshows (CES and Magic tend to bring large crowds and higher room rates) and look out for large events like NFR. If you’re looking for inexpensive Strip hotels, here are some options

Transportation Options

Taxis and rideshare are both options to get around town. The casinos have designated areas for rideshare pickup, so look for signage to get to the right place. If staying on the Strip, there is also the Las Vegas Monorail, with daily and weekly passes and stops at several major resorts. Utilizing the monorail can help you cut down on traffic delays, especially if you’re in town for a convention. We’ve also rounded up several transportation options for you here

Las Vegas Parking

If you’re driving into town, double-check the parking fees. Most casino garages offer a certain amount of time free (usually an hour or two), so set an alarm to stay on schedule. We’ve got a comprehensive guide to free parking in Las Vegas here. If there is a significant sporting event or concert, parking garages might have high event parking rates (this is especially true for Aria Resort & CasinoNew York-New YorkPark MGM and Resorts World Las Vegas).

Las Vegas Drinks & Nightlife

Drinks in Vegas can really add up. Pregame affordably by walking to the closest CVS or Walgreens (there are several on the Strip) and purchasing beverages there. Some venues like Rockhouse have shareable bowl cocktails that you can split with a group to bring down the prices a bit too. If you’re traveling with a group of girls, use social media to find a Vegas promoter for discounted or free entry to the nightclubs. Discounted or expedited access can also be available for mixed or male groups, as long as there isn’t a major guest or performer scheduled.

Casino Players Club Cards

If you plan to gamble, get a Players Card. It’s essentially a free casino rewards card where you can rack up points for your gaming and dining on property. They often come loaded with $5-20 of free play or matching play, as well as discounted buffet rates and exclusive deals. You can get free drinks while you play the slots; just be sure to tip your cocktail server.
