“Opened in 1962, the original Americana Motor Hotel was a destination stop on Route 66 and was touted as the “Finest Motor Hotel on Route 66,” Zach Miller, General Manager at Americana Motor Hotel, told us. “In the 60s, Americana Motor Hotel hosted Willie Nelson when he played at the Museum Club down the road and the cast of Easy Rider during filming in Flagstaff.”

The newly renovated property features nods to the original space while also respecting Flagstaff’s current environment. “Americana Motor Hotel’s guestroom buildings are being given a paint scheme inspired by the original hotel but implemented in compliance with Flagstaff’s dark sky regulations,” Miller explained. “The property’s central courtyard, which was overgrown and underutilized for years, is being reimagined as the Backyard, a restful respite from the road where a new pool will replace the original that had been filled in years ago. In keeping with Route 66’s tradition of iconic roadside signage, the team has designed a new sign that is inspired by the 1962 original.”

Americana Motor Hotel pays homage to the classic American road trip. “The reimagined Americana Motor Hotel embodies a nostalgic era dating back to the golden age of road-tripping and space travel,” Miller said of the new design elements. “The retro-inspired design pays homage to Flagstaff’s deep ties to astronomy, surrounding nature and its iconic location on Route 66. Portraying an idyllic yet nostalgic vision of the future and celebrating utopian optimism through a playful lens, the property exudes bold colors and graphics that feel both vintage and modern, from vibrant geometric carpets to groovy disco balls in every room.”

Flagstaff is quickly making a name for itself outside of its reputation as a gateway and quick stop on the way to the Grand Canyon, and the team at Americana Motor Lodge is excited for visitors to experience what the hotel and the city have to offer. “Located in the world’s first Dark Sky City and along the iconic Route 66, Americana Motor Hotel is uniquely positioned to allow visitors to immerse themselves in all that Flagstaff has to offer, from borrowing bicycles to venture around town or telescopes to explore the night sky,” Miller told us. “Whether stopping in for the night on a road trip or hanging around on property after a day exploring, visitors will love Americana Motor Hotel’s expansive Backyard with a year-round heated pool, firepits, yard games, a fenced Backyard for pups and a walk-up window serving burgers, fries and frosty canned beverages.”
