April showers brought May flowers and now we’re in the mood for a garden party. Not to mention that this is the best time of the year to visit some of our favorite area gardens: the low season has begun, and extreme heat is still a few weeks away.

Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens

For a truly serene and cultural escape in South Florida, the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens offers an experience unlike any other. This peaceful sanctuary has been a center for Japanese arts and culture since 1977. The gardens themselves are a masterpiece, designed in a style that evokes different periods of Japanese garden design, providing a tranquil setting for quiet reflection. The museum features both permanent and rotating exhibitions, with a highlight being a detailed replica of a Japanese villa that tells the story of the Yamato Colony, a community of Japanese farmers who settled in South Florida more than a century ago. A visit here is a chance to not only enjoy the stunning landscapes but also to gain a deeper understanding of Japanese history and its connection to the region.
