Last year, Teatro Real brought Authentic Flamenco to cities around North America on tour, giving audiences around the country a taste of this fantastic Spanish art form. “2022 marked the first time Teatro Real brought flamenco to the United States with an orchestral performance that took place at Carnegie Hall in September, attended by Queen Sofia of Spain, the Mayor of New York and the Mayor of Madrid, followed by the debut of Authentic Flamenco with stops in New York, Washington DC and Dallas,” García-Belenguer explained. “Seeing how positively received it was by audiences in the region, we decided to expand and bring the show to over 20 cities worldwide, with 15 new cities in North America, including Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco and more.”

Flamenco originated in the southern regions of Spain in the 18th century. It is characterized by its fiery footwork, intricate hand movements, and expressive facial expressions, which are all used to convey a range of emotions from joy and love to sadness and despair.” Flamenco is an expression of passion and emotion; with it, the feelings that make us human are honored and celebrated,” García-Belenguer said. “Whether you’re an avid flamenco lover or just seeing it for the first time, there’s no better, more authentic way to witness firsthand the power of this beloved Spanish art form.”
