Carlos Santana Celebrates Ten Years in Las Vegas

Local artist Justin Lepper gifted Carlos Santana with a special piece of custom art to commemorate the anniversary. A piece of the original stage from Woodstock was presented to the venue by Steve Gold from Peace of Stage, where it will be hung in a special place of honor.

Carlos Santana was also given the Las Vegas Icon Award by County Commissioner Justin Jones, who also made a note of Santana’s contributions to the Las Vegas community, “He moved here. He just doesn’t come to perform here. And over the last decade, he has spent a tremendous resource to our community. You heard mention of the Milagro Foundation. The Milagro Foundation was created back in 1998 and provides resources around the world for underprivileged children and education and has funded great programs here in Southern Nevada, including the Boys and Girls Club, Project 150, the Andre Agassi Foundation and Three Square Food Bank.”

Santana Manager Michael Vrionis capped off the ceremony with two major announcements, “First, since May of 2012, because of the sale of the Santana residency tickets, we’ve been responsible for donating more than $230,000 to the Milagro Foundation and the House of Blues Music Foundation. The second announcement is an exciting one as well—we just wanted you all to know that we just executed a multi-year agreement, and we’re going to stay here at the House of Blues, and Carlos is going to be entertaining you for years to come.”

Santana also spoke to the room, giving thanks to his family, “So many incredible people to thank for so many blessings and miracles in resilience. My mother and father taught me how to with diligence present yourself in such a way that you give people hope and courage.”

“Music is unity and harmony, and it’s about healing. You have to heal yourself every day from the voices, the negative voices in your head. You know, so besides the music, I get to practice in front of the whole world my shamanic powers,” Santana said to members of the press. “Shamanic powers are living a life like Mother Teresa, or the Dalai Lama or Desmond Tutu, or Martin Luther King. I love them because they were really resilient and consistent with bringing hope and courage and that it’s not just the music.”
