American Idol’s Nick Fradiani in A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical
Tell us about your current Broadway role in A Beautiful Noise, The Neil Diamond Musical?
Fradiani- I’m currently playing Neil – Then in A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical. Having the opportunity to step into the shoes of such a legendary musician like Neil Diamond, eight shows a week, has truly been one of the greatest experiences of my career. I get to play guitar and sing some of my favorite songs while telling a beautiful story. It’s a dream.
How did you get your start in performing, and in what other shows have you performed?
Fradiani- I began singing at a very young age. My father is a working musician, so I’ve been around it my entire life. I started writing songs and had an original band for many years, and after American Idol, I went on to a solo career. My first musical was in 2019 when I played Lorenzo in A Bronx Tale on the National Tour. I fell in love with it and got an agent in musical theater right after that.
What is your favorite Broadway show to see as an audience member?
Fradiani– That is such a hard question! I’ve seen so many over the last few years, and I just can’t get enough. If I had to pick just one, it would be The Phantom of the Opera. I was lucky enough to catch it right before it closed after 35 years on Broadway!
What are your favorite NYC local tips?
Fradiani- I’m from Connecticut, but this is the first time I’ve ever lived in NYC, so I’m not sure I’m an expert just yet. There is more to do in this city than anywhere else in the world, and sometimes it can be overwhelming. I guess one tip is to make a list of all the places and experiences you don’t want to miss and plan it all out in advance. I always find myself wishing I had more time outside the theater to get to all of mine! Oh, and learn the subway! It’s not as confusing as you’d think, and it’ll save you tons of money and time!
If you’re going out for a night on the town in New York City, where would you go?
Fradiani- My girlfriend and I both work on Broadway. She’s in Moulin Rouge, which is one street over from A Beautiful Noise. We also have a dog, so I feel like it’s rare we get a night out! We usually hit a bar near our theaters after our show ends, such as Beer Culture, Smiths, or Hold Fast Kitchen and Spirits.
Where are your favorite spots to send family and friends when they visit?
Fradiani- Well, the first spot I tell them to visit is the Broadhurst Theater to see our musical, haha. We are across the street from Sardi’shttps://govisit.guide/places/sardis/, which I feel is a staple for dinner before a show or a cocktail after, so that’s usually what I tell friends and family.
What is your favorite meal to enjoy in NYC?
Fradiani- One of my favorite meals is at an Italian restaurant on Bleecker Street called Suprema Provisions. Their Short Rib Fettuccine is amazing. So good, So good, So good!” See what I did there?
