  • Roaring Success: Tiger Sugar’s Boba Reign Expands Across America

Roaring Success: Tiger Sugar’s Boba Reign Expands Across America

Tiger Sugar, the globally acclaimed boba tea brand, is rapidly cementing its status as a leader in the U.S. beverage market, captivating palates nationwide with its distinctive brown sugar boba and visually striking “tiger stripes.” Known for its commitment to quality and a truly unique flavor profile, Tiger Sugar is on a meteoric rise, now celebrating its latest milestone: a highly anticipated new location within the bustling H-Mart food hall in Las Vegas. This strategic expansion into key metropolitan areas continues to fuel the brand’s rapid growth, making it a must-try for boba tea enthusiasts in Las Vegas and beyond who crave an authentic and premium bubble tea experience.

The Secret Behind the Stripes: Tiger Sugar’s Unique Flavor and Texture

What sets Tiger Sugar apart in the competitive boba market? Steven W., U.S. Marketing Consultant for Tiger Sugar, reveals the magic.

Unveiling the Famous Tiger Stripes and Signature Flavor

When asked about the secret behind Tiger Sugar’s unique flavor and the famous tiger stripes, Steven W. explained, “The signature Tiger Sugar Black Sugar Boba with Cream Mousse stands out for its deep, caramelized black sugar flavor, slow-cooked for hours to achieve that rich, molasses-like depth. The “tiger stripes” aren’t just visual flair—they’re created by swirling the black sugar syrup along the inner walls of the cup, creating a dramatic contrast against the creamy milk and mousse. This aesthetic, paired with the unmistakable flavor burst, has helped the drink become instantly recognizable and Instagrammable worldwide. This distinctive presentation and rich flavor are key to the brand’s appeal for premium bubble tea in the U.S.

    The Perfectly Balanced Boba Texture

The tactile experience of boba is crucial, and Tiger Sugar has perfected it. Steven W. highlighted what makes their boba texture special: “Tiger Sugar’s boba pearls are known for their perfectly balanced chew—soft on the outside with a springy bite. Each pearl is freshly cooked in small batches and steeped in warm black sugar syrup before serving. The commitment to serving the boba warm in contrast to cold milk further enhances the texture and flavor experience, making every sip rich and comforting. This attention to detail ensures a superior boba tea experience.

Rapid Expansion: Tiger Sugar’s Roaring Popularity Across the U.S.

Tiger Sugar’s swift ascent in the U.S. market is a testament to its compelling brand strategy and product. Steven W. elaborated on what drove Tiger Sugar’s rapid popularity in the U.S.:

“Several factors contributed: Visual virality: The tiger stripe presentation instantly caught fire on social media. Premium experience: Tiger Sugar introduced American audiences to a more artisanal version of boba, where quality, preparation, and brand storytelling took center stage. Word of mouth: The warm boba concept and bold flavors gave fans something distinct to talk about and share. Combined with a strong community presence and buzz from major cities like LA and NYC, the brand snowballed in visibility. This has made them a leading force in the U.S. boba tea market.

Adapting to New Markets While Maintaining Core Identity

Tiger Sugar’s expansion isn’t just about opening doors; it’s about strategic market integration. Steven W. explained how Tiger Sugar adapts to new U.S. markets while staying true to its brand: “Each new location is carefully chosen based on high foot traffic, a strong local Asian food culture, and a demand for premium beverages. While the core product lineup stays consistent, Tiger Sugar localizes through community events, limited-edition drops tied to local holidays, and occasional menu tweaks that align with regional taste preferences—all without compromising its black sugar identity. This careful approach ensures consistent quality for Tiger Sugar locations in the U.S.

Popular Menu Items Beyond the Signature Brown Sugar Boba

While the signature brown sugar boba is the star, other menu items have also found significant favor with American consumers. Steven W. shared which other menu items have resonated: “The Brown Sugar Boba with Pudding, the Tiger Jelly Series, and matcha-based offerings have all been popular in the U.S., especially with Gen Z audiences seeking variety and customization. Seasonal specials like mango sago or ube-based drinks have also gained traction for their unique profiles and eye-catching colors. These diverse offerings cater to a wide range of preferences among boba tea drinkers.

The Future is Sweet: What’s Next for Tiger Sugar in America

Tiger Sugar shows no sign of stopping its remarkable growth in America. Steven W. outlined what’s next for Tiger Sugar in America: “Tiger Sugar continues to expand its footprint with plans to enter new metropolitan areas and second-tier cities across the U.S. The brand is also exploring crossovers with local dessert brands and potential merchandise collaborations. Expect to see limited-time flavors inspired by global trends (think brown sugar + espresso hybrids, or taro crème brûlée) as well as deeper digital engagement through loyalty programs and in-store tech experiences. The brand’s expansion plans promise more opportunities for consumers across the nation to experience Tiger Sugar’s unique boba.

The opening of the Las Vegas H-Mart location marks another significant step in Tiger Sugar’s journey to become a dominant force in the U.S. beverage landscape. With its commitment to authentic flavors, exceptional texture, and visually appealing drinks, Tiger Sugar continues to define the premium boba experience, one perfectly swirled cup at a time.

  • This Intimate Philly B&B is the Perfect Socially Distanced Getaway

This Intimate Philly B&B is the Perfect Socially Distanced Getaway

Cornerstone Bed & Breakfast is a Victorian gem tucked into a tree-lined street on the Drexel campus. Built in the 1870s on what used to be sprawling farmland and is now in the heart of University City within walking distance of the University of Pennsylvania, 30th Street Station, the Philadelphia Zoo, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Barnes and many other attractions and restaurants.

From Historic Home to Luxury Lodging

The dwelling was originally built in 1870 to be the home of Mary Sellers Bancroft, the widow of a well-to-do local manufacturer, Edward Stephen Parrish. She is the niece of famed Revolution-era portrait painter Charles Wilson Peale and the grandmother of Maxfield Parrish, a celebrated American painter who spent time at the house and used one of the bedrooms as a studio.

Over the years, the house changed hands many times, but much of its original charm has been retained, including ornate stained glass windows, original hardwood floors and elegant carpentry. When it was converted into a 6-room inn, modern amenities were added to the rooms, such as flat screen TVs, jetted tubs and Keurig coffeemakers. All of the guest rooms have a private bath. In addition, guests enjoy 24-hour complimentary snacks, tea and coffee, cookies in every room and a world-class breakfast every morning. And, for a limited time, guests who book direct will get a complimentary bottle of wine to enjoy in their room or on the porch.

The elegant inn is one of only 300 bed & breakfasts, inns and boutique hotels in North America and Europe to be awarded membership in the Select Registry, also known as Distinct Inns of North America |

    Award Winning Hospitality

The elegant inn is one of only 300 bed & breakfasts, inns and boutique hotels in North America and Europe to be awarded membership in the Select Registry, also known as Distinct Inns of North America. Select Registry properties are known for delivering a high level of personalized service. The inn had to complete a 560-point comprehensive evaluation to obtain the coveted credential and is the only property in Philadelphia on the registry.

    Dedication to the Details

That same meticulous attention to detail goes into the inn’s response to Covid-19. The inn is fully cleaned and sanitized multiple times a day and a hospital-grade ULV fogger machine with botanical disinfectant is used throughout the inn. Every guest room has a bottle of hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes and a hepa air filtration machine that is proven to clean the air and capture airborne pathogens. The employees wear masks and gloves and faceless check-in is available. Temperature checks and sanitation stations are part of the new standard operating procedure. All rooms and all linen are “rested” for 24 hours between guests. Breakfast can be served in the guest rooms or eaten on the picturesque front porch at a specific time to limit social contact. The porch is an idyllic spot  to read a book, have a private conversation or eat a romantic candlelight dinner after grabbing take out from a nearby restaurant, such as Louie Louie, a French inspired American bistro  that is open and within walking distance of the inn. Top off the evening with a stroll down the street to The Treat Box for cupcakes or an over-the-top milkshake.

    Passionate Ownership

All that attention to detail comes from Eric and Jill Pfaff-Moody, who took over the inn just over a year ago, becoming the youngest inn owners in Pennsylvania and perhaps the country. Despite being younger than others in their chosen profession, Eric has 15 years experience in restaurants and hospitality. Jill, a native Philadelphian, shares a passion for hospitality and has been known to sing while preparing the full gourmet breakfast with her husband. In fact, for the holidays she directs a children’s choir that sings carols in three part harmony while dressed in adorable Victorian costumes. This sweet holiday observance takes place on the inn’s front porch where guests and neighbors can enjoy it.

Cornerstone Bed & Breakfast was recently awarded a TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice Award, which puts it among the top 10% of lodging properties worldwide. And that’s certainly something to sing about!

While most restaurants concentrate on steaks or pasta separately, Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse provides diners a rare opportunity to indulge in a variety of items in both culinary specialties. “Davio’s stands out through its Northern Italian influence, blending traditional steakhouse offerings with handmade pastas, Italian-inspired dishes, and an elevated dining atmosphere, DiFillippo explained. “Each location prioritizes warm, attentive service that creates a sense of personalized hospitality. The open kitchens also offer a behind-the-scenes glimpse, connecting guests to the culinary artistry behind their food.”

    (Courtesy Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse)

Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse flavors and quality are unmatched, and it’s easy to see why, given the restaurant’s commitment to sustainability and local sourcing. “We are meticulous about sourcing ingredients from trusted suppliers, prioritizing local and seasonal ingredients wherever possible, DiFillippo said of his sourcing practices. “Our meat and seafood selections are of the highest quality, and our relationships with farmers and purveyors ensure consistent standards. For Italian ingredients like cheeses and olive oils, we import authentic, artisanal products directly from Italy like San Marzano Tomatoes.”

The restaurant is famous both locally and nationally for its handcrafted pastas, all made in-house. “Our handmade pasta is crafted daily by our chefs, using traditional techniques and high-quality ingredients. The process is labor-intensive but ensures the texture and flavor are unparalleled, elevating each dish. It’s a hallmark of our commitment to authenticity and showcases the care we put into every plate.”

No visit to Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse needs to be the same twice. “We continuously innovate by introducing seasonal specials and incorporating new ingredients while retaining classic dishes that our guests love, DiFillippo said of the menu. “We also listen to feedback and keep an eye on culinary trends to adapt and surprise our guests with something fresh and exciting. These specials give the restaurant and its chefs an opportunity to mix things up. “Seasonal ingredients are integral to our menus. We work closely with local purveyors to highlight the freshest produce and proteins of each season. This not only enhances the flavor and presentation of our dishes but also allows us to create menus that reflect the best of what each season has to offer.

  • Chinese Lantern Festival Returns to Philadelphia

Chinese Lantern Festival Returns to Philadelphia

The Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival returns to Franklin Square this June and bringing with it a celebration of Chinese culture. The stunning display has traveled to numerous cities throughout the United States with live performances, vendors and fun for the whole family.

Tickets start at $26 for adults and $16 for children (ticket prices are higher for weekends and timed tickets will be in use), with discounts available for teens, seniors and active-duty military personnel. We talked with Amy Needle, President & CEO of Historic Philadelphia, Inc., about the festival in Philadelphia and what guests can expect to see and enjoy this summer. The Chinese Lantern Festival returns to Franklin Square June 20-August 31, 2025.

Editor’s Note- This interview was originally published May 23, 2022.

Inside the Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival to Franklin Square

What brought the “Chinese Lantern Festival” to Philadelphia?

Needle: Tianyu Arts & Culture approached Historic Philadelphia, Inc. to bring the Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival to Franklin Square because of its location close to Philadelphia’s Chinatown and geographic presence in the Historic District. Returning for the first time in three years, the spectacular Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival in Franklin Square is a celebration of light and culture with magnificent steel-framed, and silk-wrapped giant lighted sculptures.

    A Unique Display for Philadelphia

The display has been viewed in numerous other cities around the country; will the display in Philadelphia be different in any way?
Needle: The entrance gate is customized for each city, and in Philadelphia, the entry is a giant lantern version of the Friendship Arch in Philadelphia’s Chinatown. The artists are building the Temple of Heaven, which is a big attraction that hasn’t been exhibited for years to highlight the Philadelphia festival.

Illuminating the Night: The Scale of the Lantern Festival

How many lights are used for the “Chinese Lantern Festival?”
Needle: There are 32 total lantern groupings with about 500 pieces created. A total of over 20,000 LED lights are used to illuminate the lanterns.

    Utilizing Franklin Square’s Landscape

Are the different displays arranged to make use of the current structures in the park?
Needle: There are four dramatic tunnels that are custom-built for the four major pathways in Franklin Square, as well as a grand entryway designed specifically for the 6th & Race streets gateway. The Philly Mini Golf course will have additional special lighting designs added as well.

    A Fantastic Outing for Families

What makes the “Chinese Lantern Festival” a fantastic outing for families?
Needle: The lanterns are fun for all ages, as guests will see pandas, a giant whale, the 200-foot-long dragon and many more amazing creations. There will be several fun interactive lanterns in the Festival, as well as a variety of live performers from China who will demonstrate incredible and impressive feats of strength, balance, and movement. In addition, Franklin Square has Philly Mini Golf presented by IBEW Local 98 and the Parx Liberty Carousel, which are fun for young and young-at-heart alike.

    A Welcomed Return to Philadelphia

What is your favorite part of the “Chinese Lantern Festival?”
Needle: At Historic Philadelphia, Inc., we are excited to bring the Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival back to Franklin Square for the first time in three years and to welcome audiences who have been waiting for this special event.

It is a privilege to partner with our friends in Chinatown to showcase this exquisite part of Chinese culture and share it with visitors from around the Greater Philadelphia region and across the country. We are looking forward to the lanterns, the live performances, and a brand new fountain show created for the Festival!

A Taste of Philadelphia: Federal Donuts & Chicken Opens in Sin City

Federal Donuts & Chicken, a culinary gem from Philadelphia, has captivated a loyal fan base with its distinctive blend of coffee, doughnuts, and fried chicken. Since its inception in 2011, this trailblazing eatery has set itself apart by serving freshly baked doughnuts in a myriad of innovative flavors, from traditional glazed to daring options like blueberry mascarpone. Breaking new ground, the brand has now opened its first outpost beyond Philadelphia. The exciting new location can be found within the Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa in Las Vegas.

Federal Donuts Debuts Its First Las Vegas Location

“We started by accident. We were eating a ton of mostly Korean fried chicken, and our partners were into coffee and wanted to open a doughnut shop,” Chef Michael Solomonov told us about the restaurant’s origins between him and Chef Steve Cook. “So we were like, well, maybe we should just do all three of those things. So we kind of opened it by accident. On the second day, we sold out of doughnuts in no time, and the chicken line started at noon. It was so long that we were beyond capacity both days in a row. So we were like, this might actually be a good idea. But it was essentially the last; we had these great restaurants, and it was right after 2008, and the restaurants weren’t bustling, so we were like, let’s just open this fried chicken and doughnut shop. Something fun, and if we lose, so be it. And that was it. That was twelve years ago.”

The donuts come in various deliciously imaginative flavors like the Strawberry-Lavender Hot-Fresh, S’more Fancy, Baklava, and Pomegranate Nutella. “ I think it’s the uniqueness of the flavors, the seasonal rotating ones,” Federal Donuts Director of Culinary Operations, Joseph Kudrak, said of the unique offerings. “But also, I think it’s the hot and fresh doughnuts. Where else can you order a hot and fresh donut? It’s made literally right in front of you, and it’s still warm in your hands. To me, that’s the winner. That’s the greatest part of it because it’s just so nice and light. The sandwiches are great; there’s a great culinary chef presence behind them as well. There’s a lot of thought that goes into all the flavors.”

In addition to their renowned doughnuts, Federal Donuts serves up some of the city’s finest fried chicken, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, often paired with an array of delicious dipping sauces. What started as a single location has expanded into multiple spots around the city, making it easier than ever for Philadelphians and visitors alike to indulge in these delightful treats—and now for Las Vegans to enjoy as well.

“This is a franchise—Red Rock is our first franchisee, and we couldn’t be happier with them as partners,” Solomonov said about the partnership with Red Rock. “They know what they’re doing. They have a ton of integrity, and the team here is incredible; we’re really excited.”

Vacation planning can be fun, but it can also be stressful and time-consuming—especially if you’re planning a short visit and want to see as much as possible. Enter Big Bus Tours. The tour provider offers hundreds of buses and resources located in over 20 cities across four continents, making it an expert in the sightseeing business. Big Bus Tours is a great way to explore a new country or city from the comfort of an open-top sightseeing bus.

Navigate a New City With Big Bus Tours

Big Bus Tours provides hop on hop off services, which allow visitors to easily move around a new destination and visit various attractions at their own leisure. This offers tourists the freedom to determine which attractions they would like to explore, giving them more control and knowledge about their vacation destination. Additionally, with transportation built into the tour, there’s no need to worry about finding different means of transport.

    See as Much as Possible

A full rotation on a Big Bus Tour typically takes around 90 minutes to two hours and passes through most of the significant landmarks in any given city (of course, this is dependent on traffic conditions). Many landmarks are often spots that are just a quick photo opp, so consider riding on the second level—it’s a great way to snap that quick picture and carry on with your trip. It’ll help you save time getting to the landmark—and money on transportation as well.

What’s more, taking a tour with Big Bus Tours gives visitors a unique perspective and viewpoint as they are able to see the sights of their chosen destination from the top of an open-top sightseeing bus. This will offer some great views that cannot be experienced when traveling by foot or by car.

Get Your Footing in a New City

For those wanting to learn more about their vacation destination and its geography, Big Bus Tours can also be extremely helpful. The onboard tour guides provide insightful information on each attraction that is visited, allowing guests to gain greater knowledge as they travel around their chosen destination.

Let’s face it, we all have to rely on maps in a new city, and that can be a bit confusing at times. Taking a full rotation on tour can help you figure out distance much better than a map since you’ll be seeing the stops in real time. It can also help you navigate the geography of your vacation destination more clearly, making it easier for you to get around later.

    Explore at Your Leisure

The hop-on-hop-off nature of Big Bus Tours allows vacationers to visit attractions at their own pace, unlike traditional tours where their time at a destination is fixed and pre-determined. You can get a great estimate of how much time you have until the next bus arrives via the Big Bus Tours app—just make sure to keep track of when the last bus of the day arrives at your stop. For instance, on the Big Bus Tour in Las Vegas, you might want to just snap a quick shot of the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign from the open-top deck, or you might want to hop off and get in line for the perfect Vegas Instagram shot.

    Find Your Dos and Don’ts

Taking a full rotation on your Big Bus Tour can also help you eliminate stops that you might have otherwise wanted to see. Often, seeing a stop in real-life can encourage you to take a longer visit, but sometimes a real-life view can show you that the attraction isn’t the best for your schedule and interest. For instance, on a Big Bus Tour Singapore route, you might decide that you really don’t need to stop and visit Raffles Hotel when a photo from the open-top deck will suffice.

    Fun Add-Ons

Big Bus Tours offers various ticket options ranging from a one-day pass to multiple days with extra features. You can pick the pass that best suits the length of your stay or your vacation needs, and add-ons often include attraction tickets, night tours and other fun activities that can enhance your visit. Add-ons on the Big Bus Tour New York include bike rentals, while the Big Bus Tour Dubai includes a Dhow Cruise and a Desert Sunset Tour.

    A Visit With AKA

We recently were invited to AKA West Hollywood for a brief stay that allowed us to get a better feel for the city than we would in a traditional hotel. The plush space in our room provided many storage solutions, a large closet space, stunning views, well-appointed bathrooms, a kitchen and dining area and a living room. The accommodations blended the comforts of an upscale apartment with the boutique amenities one would expect from a well-appointed hotel. The location on Sunset Boulevard was also fantastic.

“Prior to AKA launching in 2004, we recognized a gap in the market for high-design luxury furnished residences, as the only benefit of the furnished apartments on the market was more space,” Larry Korman, President of AKA, explained. “When launching our brand, we set out to completely elevate the category by working with some of the world’s top design professionals – from Koning Eizenberg Architecture to Meyer Davis and Piero Lissoni – to bring the romance of design to the hotel residence space, while incorporating lifestyle services and amenities that someone may find at a luxury resort.”

    Unique Lodging For Today’s Travelers

AKA offers a unique accommodation option for a variety of today’s travelers. “Today, our hotel and hotel residences deliver a high-quality experience that is more livable,’ Korman told us. “AKA properties reflect a tranquil and sophisticated design that strikes the perfect balance between the privacy and contentment of a residence and the hospitality, service, and style of an intimate hotel.” AKA offers a great long-term solution, especially for business travelers who are longing for the comforts of home during lengthier trips.

Other travelers who many find AKA’s offerings extremely appealing are those relocating to a new city who want to familiarize themselves with a neighborhood. “We always look for excellent locations and iconic neighborhoods that are walkable and that are where people want to go, visit and experience,” Korman said of the brand’s vetting process for new locations. “For example, Marylebone is an upscale enclave that offers serene sophistication in the heart of London, which made it an ideal neighborhood for AKA. In California, AKA West Hollywood is in the heart of the vibrant and forward-thinking city at a coveted address on the iconic Sunset Strip. AKA Beverly Hills’ premier location is in the well-known Golden Triangle within walking distance of Rodeo Drive, Via Rodeo and Robertson Boulevard.”

Following the pandemic, digital nomads have become more prevalent, with some traveling the majority of the year, exploring new destinations while requiring accommodations that allow them to live and work comfortably. “AKA’s properties provide a range of world-class amenities and services that both add a luxurious touch to guests’ stays and provide the comforts of home,” Korman told us. “The brand’s signature amenities include a 24/7 dedicated resident services team committed to enhancing each resident experience; exclusive lounges and outdoor terraces; a.fitness workout centers outfitted with state-of-the-art Technogym equipment; a.cinema, an on-site private screening room featured at most AKA locations; complimentary high-speed Internet access; as well as complimentary meeting spaces.”

AKA West Hollywood Cinema (Courtesy AKA)

    A New Hotel Option

“We listen carefully to what matters to our residents, and have our finger on the pulse of what our residents want and need,” Korman told us. “I travel often and am always looking at the latest trends and innovations in both luxury apartments and hotels, as well as tracking new design trends, all of which contribute to AKA’s ongoing evolution. Looking ahead, we will be introducing podcast booths to support creators who are staying with us. For our bi-coastal guests that travel often, we will be exploring offering conditioned clothing containers to make traveling even more seamless.”

Historically, long-term stays were ordinarily found in cheaper options in less desirable areas. They were frequently budget choices with few amenities, threadbare linens in older buildings with outdated appliances. Those days are gone with the abundance of upscale options entering the market, including more and more AKA properties. “A major advantage AKA has always been able to offer is a superior value, regardless of the length of stay—especially when compared with a traditional luxury hotel—from our expansive suites to private amenity spaces, unique programming, exceptional service and more,” Korman explained.

    Beautiful Design

Also, unlike most long-term lodging options, AKA properties concentrate on a modern design, much like their upscale apartment counterparts. You won’t find any standard box-shaped buildings in the AKA portfolio. “Our design philosophy is sleek, contemporary and sophisticated, clean and crisp,” Korman said of the spaces. “AKA is based on the idea that somebody’s going through some level of chaos, and we’re going to provide calm. So the moment you step foot inside, AKA, the ambiance is immediately soothing, quiet and comfortable. Each of our properties has a distinct design point of view while following AKA’s signature design vernacular.

“We’ve collaborated with some of the world’s most celebrated designers who bring our vision of a minimalist yet well-appointed aesthetic to life with custom furnishings. For AKA West Hollywood, we collaborated with Piero Lissoni to create a contemporary feel inside the residences. At Hotel AKA Brickell in Miami, New York-based Gabellini Sheppard Associates was selected to create an urban oasis defined by tranquility and elevated design. Drawing on the vibrant and sophisticated characteristics of the Brickell neighborhood, the hotel’s aesthetic provides a sense of place and a unique environment that manifests itself as a harmonious frame to focus and highlight both the character and culture of the hotel as it moves through time.”

    Something For Everyone

AKA properties aren’t solely for those with business in mind. “In addition to catering to discerning leisure and business travelers, AKA’s unique clientele includes home renovators, couples in transition, newly relocated executives, creative directors in fashion, entertainment and media and more,” Korman told us. “Throughout the pandemic, AKA’s brand promise resonated more deeply with travelers than ever before—the level of care, personalization and space, among other attributes, mattered even more to our guests. As we emerged from the pandemic, we saw an opportunity to bring the signature elements of an AKA hotel residence into a transient hotel experience where we entertain nightly stays. AKA hotels and hotel residences reflect the attributes that established the brand as the premier long-stay provider, along with an evolved point of view on the hotel experience. We know our discerning clientele appreciates the aspirational aspects of travel and also seeks the creature comforts of home. AKA bridges these two needs together to form a signature stay experience—whether our guests stay for one night, one month or several months.”

  • The Best Cherry Blossoms in America

The Best Cherry Blossoms in America

When you start to see flowers blooming instead of snow on the ground, you know that spring is right around the corner. One plant you’ll love to find during the season is cherry blossoms. Native to Japan, these flowers bloom in the trees and add some color to the land thanks to their pink and white petals. Cherry blossoms grow throughout the U.S. in gardens, parks and even right along the streets! Some cities also host festivals where you can celebrate these beautiful buds and experience them growing up close. Take a trip to these cities in the spring and see them for yourself!

Cherry Blossom Destinations in the United States

    Washington D.C.

The nation’s capital is filled with various beautiful plants you’ll find growing alongside the monuments. Cherry blossom trees are one of them, and they make Washington D.C. come alive with color once they’re in bloom. You can see them in parks, the National Arboretum and along the water throughout late March and April in the District of Columbia.

These trees were a gift from Tokyo to the city in 1912, and they’re celebrated every year at the National Cherry Blossom Festival. They’re especially majestic around the Tidal Basin, a popular area you’ve likely seen on social media that attracts a high number of visitors.

This four-week event wants everyone to get involved while walking underneath the pink and white trees in bloom. You can fly a kite over the treetops, watch live music performances and sip some tea in your fanciest pink clothes. The best part is you have a great view of both the cherry blossoms and the city’s landmarks in everything you do! The festival runs from March 20 to April 17.

    Brooklyn, NY

New York City is no stranger to secret gardens in its boroughs, as you’ll find parks and gardens hidden in between the skyscrapers. You’ll find cherry blossoms in Central Park, the New York Botanical Garden and various spots throughout the city. That said, there is one spot in particular that holds the most majestic plants.

One place is the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, a place filled with gardens and conservatories devoted to growing some of the most beautiful plants you’ll find in the city. The grounds are home to a cherry esplanade where you can lay across a green lawn surrounded by pink cherry blossoms. Their trees grow Kanzan cherry blossoms, meaning their flowers grow in pairs that can give you twice the beauty.

The garden’s blossoms tend to bloom in April, so you have the whole month to visit and see them for yourself. You can either visit during their Sakura Matsuri festival celebrating Japanese culture or watch videos on their website of the cherry blossoms blooming right before your eyes. Check online for updates on the peak bloom dates too.

    Salem, OR

Salem is a city on the West Coast with a rich Japanese culture. A part of that comes from the cherry blossoms that grow throughout the city. The best place to see them is at Capitol Mall, where 151 Akebono cherry blossom trees have been planted throughout the grounds. When you see their pink flowers begin to bloom, you know that spring is here.

Every third Saturday in March, the city hosts Cherry Blossom Day in Salem. This festival celebrates not only the city’s cherry blossoms but also Japanese culture. While you walk beside the trees, you can listen to traditional music, see local artwork on display and take part in the art of Japanese flower arrangement or Ikebana. While last year’s celebration was virtual, this year’s will take place on March 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    Macon, GA

If there’s one city that loves cherry blossoms, it’s Macon. Their trees can be found at Carolyn Crayton Park, where you can watch the flowers bloom when you walk along the Cherry Blossom Trail. As they start to grow in late March, the city comes together and invites everyone for the annual Macon, Georgia International Cherry Blossom Festival

. This ten-day event wants you to think pink as you celebrate the arrival of the new buds. There are events for all ages, including a parade, live music and even competitions for your dog! There’s also a carnival held in the park filled with rides, concessions and other attractions celebrating all things cherry blossom. This year is their 40th festival, so make sure you don’t miss out! The festival begins on March 18 and ends on March 27.

    St. Louis, MO

St. Louis has a secret garden of its own, thanks to the cherry blossoms you’ll find in the city. They’re planted in the Japanese garden located at Missouri Botanical Garden, but they hold much more than the typical tree. There are over 230 different types of cherry blossom trees on the grounds, and each one offers something new. You’ll find trees blooming in different colors, from the brightest white to the softest pink.

There are 14 acres of blossoms for you to explore that range from typical Kanzan blooms to hanging Higan cherry blossoms. There are even cherry blossoms planted that come from the original cuttings of trees gifted to the U.S. from Japan in 1912! No matter what type of cherry blossom you’re looking for, you’re sure to find it in St. Louis. Be sure to visit in late March and early April to get the best look at them.

    Fresno, CA

While most cherry blossoms can be found on the East Coast, the West Coast has some destinations to see them as well. One of them is Fresno, where there’s a secret place for you to see them off the beaten path. The Fresno County Blossom Trail

is a walking tour you can take that guides you through a grove of cherry blossoms. From mid-February to mid-March, you can watch the buds bloom before your eyes as you walk beside them.

The cherry blossoms are scattered with other fruit blossoms like apple, peach and citrus blossoms, so you’ll have a variety of colors and flowers to see during your tour. If you really want to get close to them, take a ride on the Blossom Trail Train that runs through the gardens on weekends in March.

    Nashville, TN

Nashville is typically the home of country music, but you can also find cherry blossoms growing there. There are 1,000 cherry blossom trees planted throughout the city, and you can watch the streets turn pink in the spring, thanks to their buds.

Whether you’re walking through town or in the park, you’re bound to find one along your path. If you want to celebrate with the city, visit during the Nashville Cherry Blossom Festival! This event honors not only the trees themselves but also the Japanese culture from which they originated.

You can join the official Cherry Blossom Walk with the mayor, participate in a sumo wrestling match or dress up in costume and see if you win the Cosplay Contest. No matter how you join the fun, you’re bound to have cherry blossom petals at your feet. The festival will be held on April 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

    New Haven, CT

New Haven is no stranger to cherry blossoms, as the city planted 72 trees in Wooster Square in 1973. Today, you can watch these Yoshino trees bloom every spring with bright pink petals around the park. To commemorate these trees, Wooster Square hosts an annual Cherry Blossom Festival on its grounds. It’s a yearly day of outdoor fun in April filled with live music, vendors and even some fun for your pets!

You can experience all this and more while walking along the trails of the park and seeing the cherry blossoms grow above you. While the festival has had to be canceled for the past two years, 2022’s is tentatively planned for April 24. If you’re visiting New England, be sure to stop by and see if the cherry blossoms are ready to bloom.

    Traverse City, MI

If you’re visiting the northern U.S., you’ll find a hidden treasure waiting for you in Michigan. Cherry blossoms are grown throughout Traverse City, and you can find them wherever you look.

While most trees tend to bloom during March and April, these trees begin blooming in the middle of May, allowing you to have some cherry blossom fun later in the spring. Most of the city’s cherry blossoms are grown on private farms, so you won’t be able to see them up close. However, there’s still a way for you to experience their beauty.

The city has designated a self-guided driving tour of their cherry blossoms, allowing you to drive by and see them while on the road. They’re planted close to major highways and local counties, and they’re mixed in with local vineyards and fruit orchards as well. With such a perfect blend of bright colors and blossoming flowers, this is one drive you won’t forget.

    Philadelphia, PA

Do you want to view cherry blossoms on the East Coast while staying close to New York? See the flowers in Philadelphia! The city boasts thousands of cherry blossom trees planted in various parks and gardens that you can see come to life in mid-April.

No matter what street you travel on, you’re bound to catch their pink and white blossoms spread out over the city. The best place to see them is Shofuso Japanese House and Garden, as you can see them bloom alongside the traditional Japanese architecture like they were meant to be seen.

If you want to have even more fun with the trees, participate in the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival. You can have a picnic under the garden’s trees, run under their blossoms in the 10K or 5K run or view the festival virtually if you’re not able to visit in person. If you come to Philadelphia in the spring, you’re sure to find a pop of color throughout the city, thanks to their cherry blossoms.

  • Take Self Care to the Next Level at Heyday

Take Self Care to the Next Level at Heyday

Heyday has already made a splash with multiple locations around Los Angeles and New York City and more venues in Chicago, Philadelphia and more. Recently, Heyday opened up a location in the metro-Atlanta neighborhood of Dunwoody, with a new Midtown location following soon. We talked with Patrick Ryan-Southern, CEO of L5 Skincare, a franchising entity of Heyday and Evan Pope, Heyday Shop Educator, Atlanta, about the brand.

Inside Heyday, The New Skincare Powerhouse

Perimeter and Midtown were both chosen as ideal locations for the Atlanta venues of Heyday for a big reason. “Accessibility! Our site selection team analyzes the traffic patterns of our customers so we can meet them where they are,” Ryan-Southern explained. “Perimeter and Midtown are both located in centralized, accessible on-the-ground storefront locations and have adequate parking for our urban and suburban customers. We’re thrilled to be a part of the Atlanta community and offer the Heyday experience to everyone here.”

While many spas emphasize self-care as a treat, Heyday aims to remind customers that skincare is a daily ritual. “Heyday was created to take the facial out of the spa and make skincare a regular part of your routine, rather than a once-in-awhile luxury. We believe facials – and the guidance that comes along with them from estheticians – should be accessible, approachable, conversational, and habitual to help you put your best face forward,” Ryan-Southern told us. “Our 50-minute facials are fully personalized using results-driven treatments tailored to what your skin needs the most. We also offer a monthly membership to encourage routine facials, which come with additional perks and discounts.”

While self-care is rewarding for the clients, the team at Heyday also sees a great reward for their work. The most rewarding part of working with my clients is the connections and bonds I create,” Pope told us. “I love listening to their needs and concerns, so I can empower them with the information they need to unlock their confidence and reach their goals, skincare and otherwise!”

Though some might find esthetics intimidating, the Heyday team makes it approachable. “Start with the basics and try to be consistent,” Pope explained. “All skincare routines should include a cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF. When you’re ready to venture out and try a more specialized routine, schedule an appointment with a skincare professional. They can properly identify your unique skin type and give you advice on how to maximize your results.”

There’s more to come soon from Heyday, in addition to multiple new locations around America. “We are very focused on continued innovation in our treatments and services we offer,” Ryan-Southern told us. “We just launched two new enhancements—Microcurrent and Hydro Infusion—and are always adding new product lines to our lineup so that our Skin Therapists can continue to personalize the facial treatment to our client’s needs.”

  • Flight Club Brings Social Darts to the World

Flight Club Brings Social Darts to the World

While many see dart boards in smoky, darkened pubs, Flight Club aims to bring Social Darts to the masses with upscale, imaginative cuisine and whimsical spaces. The venues are designed with the origin of darts in mind—classic Victorian fairgrounds in England.

    A Look Inside Flight Club

“In 2012, co-founders Steve Moore and Paul Barham were catching up in a Devon pub where a young crowd was going crazy over a game on the dartboard in a corner,” Alan Cichon, U.S. President of State of Play Hospitality (Flight Club’s parent company) told us. “It wasn’t like traditional darts; it was loud, fast, and exciting – and they saw an opportunity to deliver a social experience that hadn’t been seen anywhere else. From there, they worked to develop the Flight Club concept, games, experience and patented technology. In 2018, they joined forces with State of Play Hospitality to bring Flight Club to North America, and the concept quickly took off, becoming a must-experience entertainment destination.”

In addition to the locations in America (ChicagoBoston and Houston, with three new locations in Las VegasDenver, Atlanta, and Philadelphia) Flight Club has numerous venues in the U.K. and throughout London. “The technology, design aesthetic, and overall amazing experience are the same,” Cichon explained.

    Flight Club Interior
    (Courtesy Flight Club)

“However, we really customize each venue to make it unique to the market in which it is located. You will always know you are in a Flight Club, but no two are exactly the same. A lot of care and attention to detail goes into ensuring each venue feels like a unique experience while remaining consistent with our guest’s expectations of us.”

Part of each venue theming is the collection of handpicked art at each location which is carefully curated. “This is done in collaboration with our designers Red Engine in the U.K.,” Cichon told us. “They have an entire department of people who source and produce all of the art and artifacts that match the design and layout of our venues. It involves combing through a lot of antique stores and finding old oil paintings, interesting statues, antique darts memorabilia, and more.”

    Flight Club Cocktails
    (Courtesy Flight Club)

Each location also takes into consideration its home city in the design. “Every venue is given some of what we call “local flair” to make every experience unique. That includes some local menu items and interior design choices inspired by the history of the city we are in, and to add a little more flair, all of our venues feature a hand-painted mural that is always inspired by the location.”

The art and design aren’t the only aspects that are unique to each location. Certain menu items are also specific to each venue. “We love creating unique items inspired by the locations we are in. For instance, in Chicago, we have an Italian Beef Flatbread, and Falafel Bites currently on our Happy Hour menu,” Cichon told us.

“In Boston, we feature a Duck Confit Flatbread and calamari, and we even snuck in some lobster rolls on our events menu; how could we not? For Houston, we leaned into some of the city’s favorite flavors with our BBQ Chicken Flatbread, Queso & Chips, and Candied Smoked Salmon dip (watch out, this one has jalapeno in it!). We are getting very creative with our elevated local offerings in Las Vegas and can’t wait to share those soon.”

    Flight Club Dining
    (Courtesy Flight Club)

Unlike the traditional dart boards, you might be familiar with, the boards at Flight Club utilize specific technology in order to ensure accuracy when scoring the games. “A common mistake people make is they assume we have sensors behind the board, similar to what you see in other bar dart games. However, that is not the case for Flight Club,” Cichon explained.

“The board is a standard, professional Unicorn Sisal Fiber Dartboard, and the darts are real, steel-tipped darts. Instead of sensors, we use a cutting-edge, proprietary vision tracking system that tracks the darts and is extremely accurate. This technology makes the experience very seamless for our guests. Guests will simply sign into the game, and a screen above the board will walk them through each game offering; and as they play, the system will do all the math for them, so no one has to worry about calculating scores. The technology was developed by an astrophysicist named Dr. Jason Dale. He holds a computer vision Ph.D. and has done projects in the past for NASA and DARPA before joining the team that developed Flight Club.”

  • WoodSpoon Delivers New York Chefs

    WoodSpoon Delivers New York Chefs

If the pandemic brought nothing else, it created opportunities for home artisans everywhere. With millions of Americans utilizing delivery for everything from toilet paper to gourmet meals, new delivery services of all kinds came out of the woodwork to service every set of dining needs.

Home Chefs Come to You With Woodspoon

Woodspoon connects home chefs with local customers in New York City (Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens), Philadelphia and New Jersey. “What makes WoodSpoon unique is the fact that it offers such a wide variety of homestyle meals from over 300 chefs, allowing our customers to enjoy home-cooked meals from their homeland and give the chefs an opportunity to share their craft with the world and flourish in their own business,” Merav Kalish Rozengarten, Co-Founder and CMO of WoodSpoon explained.

Dish By Home Chef Kevin Martinez New York |
Dish By Home Chef Kevin Martinez (Courtesy WoodSpoon)

While many home delivery apps offer upscale options, few allow home chefs a chance to genuinely pursue opportunities while also ensuring quality control. “WoodSpoon receives hundreds of applications from chefs that wish to join the platform every month,” Rozengarten told us. “They then face a strict screening process and a kitchen inspection. A lot of our home Chefs do work full time at WoodSpoon.”

The concept was born from a gap in the market. The co-founders Merav Kalish Rozengarten and Oren Saar couldn’t find their favorite meals available for delivery, so they created a platform that enabled them to do so. Now, countless customers can access their favorite foods while supporting the local culinary community. The variety of home chefs also cater to various dietary restrictions and needs, and the response has been great. “We have gotten both very positive responses to WoodSpoon from both the diner and the home chef sides,” Rozengarten told us. “Our home chefs enjoy the platform because it gives them an opportunity to sell their food and grow their business without opening a restaurant, freedom to work on their own schedule and create their own menu. The diners love the variety of unique dishes that are delivered hot and ready to eat. Regular customers order daily or at least five times per week.”

  • Fresh Vine Wine With Nina Dobrev & Julianne Hough

Fresh Vine Wine With Nina Dobrev & Julianne Hough

For wine lovers, having your own brand is the ultimate goal. For Nina Dobrev (Canadian actress known for “The Vampire Diaries” and “Love Hard”) and Julianne Hough (dancer/actress known for “Dancing With the Stars” and “Rock of Ages” with a recent Broadway debut), they made that goal a reality when they saw a need for a product that wasn’t yet on the market.

The duo recently launched a partnership for their company, Fresh Vine Wine, with Resorts World Las Vegas—one of the most significant food and beverage destinations on the Las Vegas Strip, and they show no signs of stopping. We talked with the pair about their love for a good pour, working together and the future of Fresh Vine Wine (available online and at retailers nationwide including New York, Chicago, Boston, Miami, Nashville, Atlanta, New Orleans, Los Angeles and Orlando).

Fresh Vine Wine also just announced a brand new partnership with True Food Kitchen. The wines will be served at the chain’s 44 locations around the country, including venues in Las Vegas, Chicago, New Orleans, Philadelphia, New York/New Jersey, Washington, DC, Miami, Los Angeles, Nashville and Atlanta.

Wine Talk With Nina Dobrev & Julianne Hough

I love that you saw a gap in the market and filled it yourselves! Where did you start?
Dobrev: We are big social butterflies and tend to always have a glass in our hands when we are together catching up, so making that into a company seems right. We started tasting wines and taking trips to different vineyards to gain knowledge on winemaking. From there, we started a team.

Hough: We work with our amazing winemaker, Jamey Whetstone, to create thoughtfully crafted wines – we pay close attention to every gram of sugar, calorie, and carb that goes into the process! Nina and I both live such active lifestyles, so we created this wine with the intention of being able to enjoy without the sacrifice.

How was the research process? Was there a lot of wine tasting?
Dobrev: It started with us talking about our favorite wine and what we like to drink. Then we started sourcing vineyards and winemakers. Our winemaker, Jamey Whetstone, hand selects grapes from California’s best wine regions in Northern California and along the Central Coast. Each region is characterized by unique soil and climate conditions that produce a wide range of grapes. Sourcing from these regions provides the perfect opportunity for the delicate balance of sugar, acidity and flavors that makes Fresh Vine Wine unique, flavored forward with the highest quality.

Hough: It’s so fun to do tastings with family and friends! Being able to hear the feedback from my family and friends about how much they love something that Nina and I created is the most unbelievable feeling! We both lead very active and physical lifestyles with a holistic approach, so we wanted to make a product that not only complemented our lives but was also still of premium quality and taste.

How did you select what varietals of wine you wanted to offer with Fresh Vine Wine?
Hough: We are both avid wine lovers ourselves, so while creating Fresh Vine Wine, we wanted to put together a collection that had something for everyone. By trying so many different varietals and with the help of some amazing experts, we were able to land at a perfect intersection of bold, crisp, and creamy wines that we are very proud of.

What is it like founding a company with your best friend? Has the experience brought you closer together?
Dobrev: Of course, we talk all the time regardless, but we have never shared a business together or worked together on a professional level. The fact that we are on calls together weekly now and help run this business together is beyond anything we could have ever dreamed of.

Hough: A lot of people say don’t do business with friends and family, but our experience has proven otherwise. When you have great communication, a foundation of respect for one another, and shared goals, you get two different perspectives and are able to challenge each other in a way that just helps you be your best self.

Fresh Vine Wine seems to be the perfect wine for summer when everyone is out exploring and being more active. Which wine is your favorite after a summer day out and about?
Dobrev: It totally depends on what our day consists of, but a typical summer day pairs perfectly with our Rosé. It is light and airy and truly reminds me of summer.

Hough: I also love our Chardonnay, which is perfect for the summer dinner table!

I know Fresh Vine Wine is a partner of Resorts World Las Vegas—how does it feel to have your product featured in one of the biggest food and beverage hotspots in Las Vegas?
Dobrev: My 21-year-old self would never believe this! Never in a million years did I think I would go to Vegas to drink OUR wine. When we heard they wanted to put Fresh Vine Wine in Resorts World, we felt like we hit the jackpot. It was a moment we will never forget.

Hough: Being able to launch our wine at Resorts World Las Vegas was such a pinch me moment! We feel so lucky to be doing things we could have only dreamed about just a few years ago.

What is your favorite experience to have with a glass of wine in hand?
Dobrev: The gatherings that it brings. The fact that people can sit around a table and create great memories and laughs. It is so incredible to think that Fresh Wine Vine is what people around the world are drinking, bringing people together.

Hough: I love to host dinners outside with my group of girlfriends. Being together with our glass of wine and laughing together is truly the best medicine. Fresh Vine Wine is the perfect addition to any gathering!

Do you have a favorite among your selection of wines?
Dobrev: I personally love our Cabernet Sauvignon. It is the perfect red wine, in my opinion. It pairs amazingly with everything.

Hough: Our Rosé is the perfect addition to any summer beach day – it’s so light and dry.

What are your goals for Fresh Vine Wine in ten years?
Dobrev: The sky is the limit! We have so many things cooking up right now. We are currently tasting new varietals and designing bottles as you read this. We also want Fresh Vine Wine to be available to all in all online and storefront retailers! We have exciting partners we will be working with to also add our line to menus across the U.S. to enjoy when dining out.

Hough: We’d love to have Fresh Vine Wine available at all our favorite restaurants and make it easily accessible for more and more people. The Rosé is my favorite right now; I’m obsessed!
