Thompson Central Park New York is adding another level of luxury to its hotel. The property is situated along “Billionaire’s Row” within walking distance of some of the Big Apple’s most famous (and infamous) attractions and sights.
A Look at Thompson Central Park New York & The Upper Stories
The newest offering at the hotel is the Upper Stories, an elevated guest experience that includes entry to a private lounge, unparalleled views from the top floors of the hotel and expedited access to nearby hot spots. “Upper Stories Lounge will be exclusively frequented by Upper Stories’s guests and residents of Thompson Central Park,” Slippoy said. “Upper Stories’s guests will enjoy a private check-in experience in the Lounge and access to a private concierge throughout their stay. In addition, the lounge will offer signature breakfast spreads as well as light bites and sips throughout the day from a menu of seasonally inspired fare, re-imagined daily.”
“Thompson Central Park New York offers unparalleled hospitality steps from Central Park and New York’s most iconic cultural institutions, such as Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall and Lincoln Center. Our guestrooms and suites offer unbeatable views of Central Park and the surrounding city skyline, in the heart of Manhattan,” Thompson Central Parl New York’s General Manager, Matthew Slippoy, told us.
The property takes notes from the locale and incorporates some of them into the hotel’s design. “In celebration of New York City’s storied music history, we’ve incorporated jazz notes throughout the guest experience. Guestrooms prominently feature music-inspired art and books,” Slippoy explained. “Our cocktail lounge, Parker’s, frequently offers live jazz, and we’ve partnered with Victrola, an innovator in modern sounds and turntables, to introduce the Victrola Listening Lounge and other moments for guests to enjoy a wide selection of vinyl records.”
The historic building has been several other properties in its lifetime. “Our property is located in a landmark building, previously home to the Parker-Meridien Hotel and, more recently, The Parker. In late 2021, Thompson Central Park debuted following a complete top-to-bottom renovation of the interior spaces,” Slippoy explained. “We’ve unveiled new public areas designed by Thomas Juul-Hansen and completely redesigned guest rooms and suites by Stonehill Taylor. The heart of our property is a 36’ high central atrium topped with a massive skylight and anchored by Parker’s, our sophisticated cocktail lounge inspired by New York City’s rich jazz history, and our proximity to music icons from Lincoln Center to Broadway.”
In addition to the unique design, the hotel also provides some elevated amenities. “In the few months since we opened, Thompson Central Park has collaborated with distinguished lifestyle brands with strong New York City presences to create these one-of-a-kind stays for guests—from room service offerings exclusively from Milk Bar and our Peloton-equipped fitness center to shopping perks from Nordstrom and complimentary stroller services from Bugaboo,” Slippoy told us. “Our property is home to 587 sophisticated guestrooms and suites. We look forward to celebrating our grand opening in September 2022 with the completion and introduction of Upper Stories, a collection of 174 luxurious guestrooms on our highest floors, offering the most expansive views of Central Park and exclusive access to high-end amenities and programming, including the Upper Stories Lounge, a first for the Thompson Hotels lifestyle brand. Guest rooms are enhanced by thoughtful amenities including a sampling of Knours skincare products and Dyson Supersonic hair dryers.”
The dining offerings at Thompson Central Park New York, are also a main highlight of the hotel. “We’re proud to offer a wide range of culinary options to our visitors and New Yorkers,” Slippoy told us. “We recently opened Parker’s, a sleek cocktail lounge serving New American fare and live Jazz in partnership with the Jazz Foundation of America. Burger Joint is another hidden gem tucked away in our lobby, home to one of New York’s top-ranking burgers, and Indian Accent is located just next door. Finally, we offer an extensive in-room dining selection, featuring treats from Milk Bar and burgers from Burger Joint!”
The Upper Stories aren’t the only new section of the hotel. “All of our guests are welcome to enjoy The Underground, home to our fitness center outfitted with new equipment including Peloton bikes and wellness destinations like Drybar,” Slippoy said. “We’re also excited to debut refreshed events and meeting spaces in September.”
