Keep On Shuckin’

Oysters

Here are five places for great oysters while you’re in the Charleston area:

Bowen’s Island Restaurant
This hard-to-find spot is a local favorite. It’s not frilly but the focus is on the food—especially the oysters, fresh from the marsh. 1870 Bowen Island Rd., 843.795.2757, bowenisland-restaurant.com

Pearlz Oyster Bar
Sure, traditional oysters are on the menu, but bivalve lovers come here for the oyster shooters made with Absolut Peppar, oysters and spicy cocktail sauce ($3.50 each). There are locations on E. Bay Street and Magnolia Road.

Hank’s Seafood
In addition to traditional raw oysters, this high-end seafood spot serves oysters fried with sweet corn and pickled okra, and oysters casino with smoked bacon.

Delaney Oyster House
Historic building housing some of the best oysters you’ll find in Charleston. 115 Calhoun St., 843.594.0099, delaneyoysterhouse.com
