Fantastic Mountain Destinations For Spring Break

Aspen, Colorado

Spring is a beautiful time to visit Aspen. You will still enjoy the snow-capped mountains but appreciate them in warmer weather. Head over to Snowmass Ski Resort to spend a day skiing Colorado’s mountains. If skiing isn’t your thing, explore Aspen’s scenic landscape on horseback. There are lunch or dinner rides that include a picnic if you’re looking to saddle up with your ‘boo.’ With the warmer temperatures, you will want to hit the trails. Aspen has some of the best hiking and mountain bike trails for novice and experienced hikers and bikers.

Park City, Utah

It is the tail end of ski season, but spring skiing in Park City is in full force through mid-April. It is a great time to ski and snowboard at Deer Valley Resort and Park City Mountain. The snow is softer, and you can ditch the winter apparel to soak up the sunnier and warmer days. After the slopes, visit Utah Olympic Park, a U.S. Olympic training and competition site. Visitors can watch athletes train and compete. Once the sun goes down, continue the fun by visiting Park City’s Historic Main Street, where there are over 100 bars and restaurants.

Big Sky, Montana

Spring is a great time to take in the majestic mountain scenery in Big Sky. If end-of-the-season skiing isn’t on your schedule, Big Sky has an array of spring activities to entice you to make it your spring vacation destination. Enjoy biking at Yellowstone Park. It opens to bikers in the spring before vehicles can drive through. Enjoy some wildlife spotting. Because most animals give birth in the spring, you may be able to catch some young ones running around. You can also head to the water for fly fishing or whitewater rafting.

Mammoth Lakes, California

Mammoth Lakes is a charming ski destination set against the beautiful eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. Spring is the best time to visit to enjoy the hot springs while enjoying the views of the snow-dusted mountains. Depending on the timing of your visit, the slopes might still be open for skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling and tubing. If it’s a bit too warm by the time you make it to the mountain, the bike park, climbing excursions and the scenic gondola are fantastic ways to enjoy the warmer temperatures. No matter when you visit, you’re guaranteed some stunning mountain views!

Stowe, Vermont

Stowe is located in northern Vermont and nestled in a valley at the foot of Mount Mansfield. While most people typically consider Vermont for fall travel due to the stunning fall foliage, spring is also a fantastic time to visit. If you visit in early April, you can possibly still enjoy some winter sports, and you’ll also catch the tail end of maple sugar season. This is the best time to stock up on Vermont’s famous maple syrup. Stowe also boasts a vibrant arts scene with many local galleries to visit and fly fishing in the incredibly scenic waters. If you’re a fan of “The Sound of Music,” book a stay at the famous Trapp Family Lodge and be sure to make a visit to Von Trapp Brewing—both were started by Johannes von Trapp.

Helen, Georgia

This small town in Northeast Georgia takes inspiration from villages in Germany, including the styles of buildings and restaurants. If you’re a fan of German cuisine, you can enjoy your schnitzel, spätzle and strudel all around Main Street. While the stormy spring season can make the air a bit more humid in Georgia, the mountain air in Helen is crisp, and the town offers plenty of fun outdoor sports and stunning trails for hiking. Go tubing (it’s nearly impossible to ignore the stacks of bright pink tubes), paddling and swimming on the Chattahoochee River. Are you in the mood for something adventurous? Check out the Georgia Mountain Coaster—an alpine ride through the forest. If you’re looking to do more relaxing, drive down to nearby Dahlonega for a variety of stunning mountain vineyards and tastings.

Spring is the perfect time to visit Sedona. Hikers will find numerous trails throughout the area, while mountain bikers will simply love the countless backcountry trails. Popular activities on the water include kayaking and canoeing, all set in an awe-inspiring natural setting with magnificent red rocks. Take a jeep tour through the Red Rock Canyons through hilly landscapes or see local wildlife on a safari tour. Saddle up and ride off the beaten path horseback riding through the Sedona red Rocks, then go up and away on a hot air balloon ride.

The gorgeous Poconos is a fantastic family-friendly spring break destination. If you love outdoor sports, you can enjoy boating, fishing and kayaking on Lake Wallenpaupack. There are plenty of hiking opportunities at Promised Land State Park and the various nature preserves and conservation areas. Enjoy the gorgeous weather at one of several golf courses in the area, or take a tour of some of the most beautiful waterfalls in North America. The shopping and dining scene is abundant with an infusion of local flair, and there’s something for everyone.
