Disney on Ice Jump In! Brings New Stories, New Characters, and New Magic to the Ice

Few live family productions capture the scale, spectacle, and emotional pull of Disney storytelling quite like Disney on Ice. With its newest production, Jump In!, the show expands its universe even further, introducing beloved characters from modern hits while blending advanced stage technology, aerial performance, and classic figure skating into a seamless theatrical experience.

From the moment the lights dim, Jump In! is designed to feel less like a traditional arena show and more like stepping directly into the world that families know from the screen.

Bringing New Disney Characters to Life on Ice

A major highlight of Jump In! is the arrival of characters from recent Disney and Pixar releases, including personalities inspired by Moana 2 and Inside Out 2. Translating animated movement into live skating required performers to rethink how personality is expressed through motion.

“The performers did a lot of studying of the movement of these characters. They use references from the movie to make sure they bring the characters to life in the iconic ways families know and love.”

Rather than inventing entirely new choreography from scratch, the cast works to mirror the recognizable gestures, timing, and body language audiences already associate with each character. The goal is not just accuracy, but emotional familiarity.

Transforming the Arena Into Multiple Disney Worlds

With more than 50 characters appearing throughout the show, Jump In! moves rapidly between very different story environments. One moment, audiences are surrounded by snowfall in Arendelle, and the next, they are transported to tropical seas or colorful animated landscapes.

“As we go through each story and introduce each character, we use many technical effects such as LED screens, or making it snow in Arendelle, to make the audience really feel as though they have stepped into the world we are taking them to.”

The production’s heavy use of visual effects helps maintain immersion while allowing transitions to happen quickly enough to keep younger audiences engaged.

When Figure Skating Meets Aerial Acrobatics

One of the most visually striking elements of Jump In! is its aerial work. Characters like Ariel and Rapunzel appear not just on the ice but above it, performing complex suspended choreography.

“The training for the aerial acts we feature in this show is completely different than the training we had as skaters. Skaters are very strong in their lower bodies, while arm and shoulder strength are the focus for the aerialist. As we learned these different acrobatics, we have to work on gaining a lot of strength in muscles that some of us have never used before.”

This shift in physical training highlights how modern arena productions increasingly blur the lines between sports, circus performance, and theatrical storytelling.

Audience Energy as Part of the Show

Unlike traditional theater, Jump In! thrives on real-time audience participation. Interactive moments help transform spectators into active participants, whether they are singing along or reacting to character entrances.

“Seeing the audience react to the different characters and stories is my favorite part of this job. You can feel the excitement as the characters are introduced. My favorite entrance of the whole show is Olaf. Every time Olaf makes his entrance, the audience goes wild.”

That instant emotional feedback shapes each performance, turning every show into a slightly different experience depending on the crowd.

Music as the Emotional Backbone of the Performance

Classic Disney music plays a central role in shaping the rhythm of the show. Songs function not only as nostalgia triggers but also as structural anchors for choreography.

“The soundtracks have a huge influence on our show. Our choreographer, Adam Blake, worked with movie choreographers from some of the movies, such as Encanto and Moana 2, to bring traditional and authentic movement to the ice.”

By incorporating creative input from film choreographers, the production maintains continuity between the cinematic versions of these stories and their live interpretation.

Performing in Historic Venues Adds Personal Meaning

While the show’s scale is global, individual stops can hold personal significance for performers. For some, returning to certain arenas connects the present production with decades of Disney on Ice history.

“My parents were both performers with Disney on Ice as well. This is actually where they met, so performing in some of these historic venues is personally special to me because it’s places where they also performed.”

Moments like these highlight how Disney on Ice functions not just as entertainment, but as a multigenerational performance tradition.

A Show Built for a New Generation of Disney Fans

With its blend of classic characters, new stories, advanced stage technology, and audience participation, Jump In! reflects how Disney live productions continue evolving alongside their film catalog. By combining skating, acrobatics, and immersive design, the show ensures that each new generation of families experiences these stories in a fresh and memorable way.
