Cloves Indian Cuisine offers a delightful journey through the vibrant flavors of Indian culinary traditions right in the heart of New York City. This restaurant is known for its commitment to authentic Indian recipes while also incorporating modern touches that appeal to a diverse palate. “Cloves draws its inspiration from the heart of Indian cuisine—the aromatic essential spice cloves, one of the essential whole spices required for making most Indian spice blends and masalas,” Owner Syed Haider told us. “My culinary journey spans over two decades in the vibrant realm of Indian restaurants. This is where I drew my inspiration for this new concept, taking the best elements from my vast restaurant experience, and combining them to create Cloves.”
Exploring Cloves’ Authentic and Modern Indian Fare
Using high-quality, fresh ingredients, Cloves creates dishes bursting with bold spices and unique aromatics. From delicious vegetarian options to perfectly cooked meats, the menu caters to a wide range of dietary preferences, ensuring every guest finds something delightful. “Cloves is unique for many reasons, but most notably for quality of the ingredients they source to create their dishes,” Haider explained. “The menu features organic vegetables, grass-fed meats, and wild-caught fish. Cloves also stands out because of the unique dishes they offer that you are unlikely to find anywhere else in NYC, such as Lobster Masala and Fig Lamb.”
The restaurant’s ambiance complements its cuisine, combining traditional Indian decor with contemporary design elements to create a warm and inviting dining experience. “The restaurant’s interior features a large dining room with sleek, clean lines and sparkling surfaces,” Haider said of the space. “The tables are dressed in crisp tables clothes and decorated with fresh flowers. I designed the space with a large bar, which is also a unique feature for Indian restaurants in NYC. The space is available for private parties and events for up to 60 people.”
Cloves also includes an extensive wine list deisnged to complement the dishes on the menu. “We have a robust wine program that highlights approachable priced selections from Italy, France, and California,” Haider said of the beverage program. “Our wine list has something for everyone and is complete with a variety of red, wine, Zinfandel, and Riesling wines. I recommend diners pair red wine with their meal at Cloves, and I specifically suggest a pinot noir as it pairs wonderfully with the tomato-based dishes.”
The knowledgeable team at Cloves is always ready to guide guests through the menu, suggesting dishes and pairings that highlight the best of Indian flavors. “My favorite dish is the Tandoori Lamb Chops, which are cooked in the clay tandoor oven,” Haider told us. “The quality of the chef’s ingredients and method of cooking make this dish, as the lamb is grass-fed and perfectly cooked in the clay tandoor oven.”
“Whether you’re a seasoned lover of Indian food or a newcomer eager to explore its diverse palate, Cloves is a culinary destination that promises a memorable experience with every visit. “I hope that diners will feel at home by experiencing our traditional Indian cuisine,” Haider told us. “I sought to create a destination restaurant where people gather with loved ones and friends to enjoy delicious, home-cooked-style meals.”
