Nobody knows New York City like a local. Some of the city’s notable locals are also the stars of Broadway. We talked with Sydney Lemmon stars as Jane in the production Job, about her favorite places in New York City.

Sydney Lemmon from Job on Her NYC Favorites

Tell us about your current Broadway role!
Lemmon- I play “Jane” in the new American play JOB. Jane is a tech worker placed on a mandatory leave of absence from her company following a mental breakdown in the office. She finds herself at a mandated therapy session where she hopes she’ll be approved to return to her favorite place in the world: her job.

How did you get your start in performing, and in what other shows have you performed?
Lemmon- I got my start understudying the great Phillipa Soo in THE PARISIAN WOMAN on Broadway in 2017, the year I graduated from drama school at Yale. I am very happy to be back a few years later, with a role I was lucky enough to originate off-Broadway before transferring to The Hayes!

How would you describe your show to someone completely unfamiliar with Broadway?
Lemmon- 80 electrifying minutes. Often funny. Intense. Two actors going toe to toe. You’ll be thinking about the play long after it’s over, trying to untangle the knots and mysteries held within it.

What do you love most about the show you are performing in right now?
Lemmon- Working with the great actor Peter Friedman. You might know him as “Frank” from Succession. He’s also likely originated a role in a play by your favorite contemporary playwright.

What was the one NYC lesson you learned shortly after arriving in the Big Apple?
Lemmon- I’ll sleep when I’m dead!

What are the best tips you can give a visitor?
Lemmon- See a comedy show, see a dance show, find some interesting live music—the city is overflowing with inspiring, brilliant creatives!

If you’re going out for a night on the town in New York City, where would you go?
Lemmon- I love a martini at Sardi’s, a famous Broadway watering hole — so much fabulous history!

Where are your favorite spots to send family and friends when they visit?
Lemmon- Certainly, a walk or bike ride in Central Park, the Met is never a bad idea, or you can grab a slice of pizza and stroll around the village.

What do you love best about New York City?
Lemmon-  I love that in NYC, days contain days within them. Your day is guaranteed to bring you surprises, and you never know where those surprises might take you! Be ready for the adventure that is life in NYC!
