We’re not clowning around—Big Apple Circus returns to New York City! Nestled against the picturesque backdrop of the city’s glittering skyline, the Big Apple Circus rings in its 2024 season at the iconic Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park. Known for blending traditional circus arts with modern flair, this beloved New York modern holiday tradition invites audiences of all ages to step into a world of wonder and excitement. The show is set to run from November 8-January 5, 2025, giving visitors and locals plenty of time to catch all the action.
Big Apple Circus Returns!
With a legacy of showcasing talented performers from around the globe, Big Apple Circus promises dazzling acrobatics, innovative juggling acts, and captivating comedic performances that capture the imaginations of both young and old. “In many ways, the Big Apple Circus has evolved and transformed from its early days in Battery Park to our current home at Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park,” Chris Yancey, President of Big Apple Circus, told us. “At the same time, we try hard to retain what makes Big Apple Circus so special to New Yorkers. In this age of extreme digital distraction, what I think appeals to families is the shared experience of live entertainment in such a fun and intimate environment. With our one-ring format, no one is ever more than 50 feet away from the action.”
For 2024, Big Apple Circus has a show that’s ready to hit home in a big way. “This year’s theme, “Hometown Playground,” is a celebration of New York City, its culture and the iconic neighborhoods and landmarks that make it like no other city in the world,” Yancey said of the year’s theme. “Our director, two-time Emmy Award-winner Shanda Sawyer, has created a nonstop show that packs all the magic of New York City into an exciting two-hour production. We can’t wait for audiences to experience all it has to offer.”
From the thrill of daring aerial stunts to the the warmth of the cutest performing poodles, each show is a testament to the artistry and resilience that define the circus experience. But blending the effects of modern technology with age-old performance arts is no easy feat. “It’s a balancing act, no pun intended,” Yancey told us. “We’ve strived to create a production that appeals to families and children of all ages. Oftentimes, parents and grandparents want to see the more traditional circus acts that remind them of going to the circus as a child, while their kids are eager for something more contemporary. “Hometown Playground” caters to both through a variety of artistry, comedy, music and special effects.”
