Alanis Morissette: A Theatrical Deep Dive into the Human Experience at The Colosseum
The Alanis Morissette: Las Vegas 2025 residency, which kicked off its limited run on October 15, is far more than a typical concert. It is a multi-disciplinary spectacle—a wild blend of rock show, musical theater, and raw, intimate storytelling that dissects the emotional and psychological journey of the iconic artist. We were invited in for opening night to witness the debut of this unique production at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
The acclaimed performer showed off her skills in various entertainment mediums during the show, which was unlike any other Vegas residency we’ve attended. With its Broadway-esque styling, interpretive back-up dancers, stage skits, small concentrated sets, and an educational aspect, Morissette created a performance completely unique to her personal style. The journey through her life and career was punctuated by comedic monologues, teacher/student moments (with Morissette educating the audience), poignant imagery, and a live-action video reenactment of key points in her childhood.

The Show: Unfiltered Catharsis and Vulnerability
Morissette, a seven-time Grammy Award-winner and cultural icon, takes the audience on a journey from her early life in Ottawa to becoming one of the most influential artists of the last three decades. Known for her honest storytelling and raw angst, Morissette has inspired artists throughout the decades, along with women everywhere. Her performance is a testament to the intersection of profound emotional rawness and philosophical depth, aiming to provide catharsis and a roadmap for self-realization, as stated in a pre-show press release.
Opening with Reckoning (which came in three parts throughout the show), Morissette rolled right into her hits like Hand in My Pocket, You Learn, Hands Clean, and all of the familiar tunes we’ve listened to and loved throughout the decades. Fans of her music through the years will not be disappointed—especially those of us who grew up in the Jagged Little Pill era. The show closed with Thank U, a fitting way to end an epic performance.

A Multi-Sensory Blend of Art and Music
The stage show is an adventurous blend of comedy, music, narrative scenes, dancing, and multimedia art. It weaves her extensive catalog of songs with storytelling and therapeutic concepts, offering a radical look at fame, trauma, and the universal struggle of being human. Morissette performs and sings what “hurts, what heals, and what’s hidden,” fostering an unparalleled sense of intimacy and vulnerability among the audience.
According to Morissette, the process of developing the show was intensely collaborative and personal: “This is a perfect example of sharing the process or generating art with masters all around me. 1+1 equals 200. The 6 weeks we took put this together (let’s be honest, we needed 6 months, ha!) had us all put our heads together in a way that is my dream come true. We have created a multi-disciplinary show that I can barely rehearse for, having to fight back tears. So excited. So humbled. so terrified.” More than just a concert, the show truly blends Morissette’s artistry into something capable of wowing even the most discerning Broadway critics.

The Enduring Power of Alanis’s Voice
The concert resonates deeply by validating the messy, wild truth of being human—a core theme throughout Morissette’s career. Her ability to articulate what people feel but “don’t have words for” is what cemented her as a rock powerhouse, particularly with the 33 million-selling album Jagged Little Pill, according to Rolling Stone. Throughout the performance, Morissette addresses key points in her life—including the most traumatic and painful—in ways that are easy to digest yet impactful to the audience, without shying away from the harsh reality. The show gives fans a chance to hear classics like “You Oughta Know” and “Ironic” live, while also experiencing the emotional evolution of an artist committed to healing.
