Inside Ten Years of Michael Jackson ONE
“The creation of Michael Jackson ONE was such an inspirational collaboration with the Michael Jackson Estate and Cirque du Soleil,” Tiffany Baker, Senior Artistic Performance Advisor, told us. “Watching the story and concept come to life through the exploration of the skillsets of the artists, the music and choreography was a priceless experience. There were many versions of each act, countless rehearsals and adaptations, but ultimately the strongest and most powerful acts came to fruition through the hard work and perseverance of the whole team. To watch the dynamics of the world’s top acrobats and artists perform to the world’s most famous music icon was, and still is, truly magical.”
Baker has been with the show since it first began over ten years ago. “While we still have some original artists in the cast, we have also been fortunate to add new cast members who can bring new skills with higher-level tricks and styles,” she explained. “There are a few acts that have evolved as well to bring heightened break dancing/tricking, acrobatics and more.”
Michael Jackson ONE showcases many of the King of Pop’s greatest hits in a unique format that leaves audience members on the edge of their seats. “One of the challenges in bringing Michael Jackson ONE to life, I feel, was the diversity of the skills, cultures and backgrounds of all the many different team members that it took to make the show,” Baker said of the show. “What we may have lacked in spoken language to communicate, we used music and artistry to bring us together and create a very unique experience. Cirque du Soleil and Michael Jackson are both known for wanting to inspire all nationalities through art, and this experience was absolutely that. We have over 30 countries represented in our show, and together we used art to communicate, unify and inspire not only our audience but each other.”
The show also comes with a powerful message. “One of the main messages portrayed in Michael Jackson ONE is “We are One,” Baker told us. “It is a message for every generation, and it is just as important today as it was ten years ago. For the 90 minutes of the show, you can use the music, images, and message of Michael that is brought to life by the talent on stage to escape and go on a magical journey that will remain with you long after you exit the theater.”
